HAWAI‘I PACIFIC GRINDS OUT 57–49 WIN OVER HAWAI‘I HILO, IMPROVES TO 2–0 IN PACWEST PLAY

HILO, HI - Hawai'i Pacific battled its way to a 57–49 victory over Hawai'i Hilo on Thursday evening, using a strong fourth quarter to stay unbeaten in PacWest play. The game remained balanced through three quarters, both teams trading the lead and answering runs, but HPU found its rhythm late and closed the night on a surge to move to 3–3 overall and 2–0 in conference.

Mya Hatchett and Alana Roberts led the way with 14 points each, Hatchett attacking the paint and earning trips to the line where she finished 8-for-10, while Roberts controlled the interior and added seven rebounds. Mia Frye followed with 10 points, converting eight of her eleven free throws, and Lucia Ricci gave the Sharks valuable perimeter production with seven points, two threes, and six boards. Kyra Tanabe contributed six.

The Sharks relied heavily on toughness and pressure, scoring 26 points off Hilo turnovers and staying even on the glass at 32–32. HPU trailed by four at halftime, then chipped away in a low-scoring third quarter before taking full control in the fourth behind defensive stops and efficient execution at the free-throw line. Hawai'i Pacific went 26-for-35 at the stripe, sealing the win in the final minutes as momentum swung firmly in their favor.

Inside a game defined by effort, composure, and incremental swings, HPU found the answers it needed down the stretch — a confident response to early-season challenges and a meaningful step forward in conference play.
