Fresno, Calif. / Rocklin, Calif. / Atherton, Calif. — Hawai'i Pacific wrapped up a demanding three-game California road stretch this week with matchups against Fresno Pacific, Jessup, and Menlo. The Sharks opened the swing with competitive efforts in Fresno and Rocklin before closing the trip in Atherton. HPU now turns its attention to one final road game on Saturday to complete the extended travel run.
Fresno Pacific 62, Hawai'i Pacific 53 — Fresno, Calif.
Hawai'i Pacific started strong with a 17-point first quarter, but Fresno Pacific responded with consistent scoring over the middle frames to hand the Sharks a 62–53 loss.
Mya Hatchett led HPU with 13 points and seven rebounds, while Kyra Tanabe added 12 points and three assists. Lucia Ricci finished with 11 points and eight rebounds.
HPU won the rebounding battle 37–32 and outscored the Sunbirds in the first and fourth quarters, but Fresno Pacific capitalized on a 16-point third quarter and an efficient night at the free-throw line to maintain control late.
Jessup 74, Hawai'i Pacific 64 — Rocklin, Calif.
The Sharks followed with a competitive showing at Jessup, falling 74–64 after a high-scoring fourth-quarter push. HPU scored 25 points in the final period and found rhythm from beyond the arc to close the game with momentum.
Hatchett powered the offense with 22 points and three made threes. Jalen Samuel added 17 points and reached the line eight times, while Tanabe scored 10. Ricci grabbed nine rebounds to lead HPU on the glass.
Jessup used an efficient 25-point third quarter — shooting 67 percent — to build separation that held the rest of the way despite HPU's strong late-game surge.
Menlo 58, Hawai'i Pacific 28 — Atherton, Calif.
HPU wrapped the trip in Atherton, where cold shooting led to a 58–28 setback at Menlo. Despite generating 37 rebounds and creating second-chance opportunities, the Sharks struggled to convert, shooting 16 percent from the field.
Alana Roberts produced a strong double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Hatchett, Tanabe, and Ricci each contributed on the boards, but the shots simply wouldn't fall as HPU finished with nine made field goals.
Menlo scored consistently across all four quarters, while HPU continued competing defensively and on the glass but couldn't overcome the offensive challenges.
One More on the Road This Saturday
The Sharks close out the extended road trip with one more game on Saturday, looking to regroup and reset before returning home with positive momentum as PacWest play continues.
