The 1998 Women's Volleyball National Championship team posted a record year on its way to the NCAA Division II Title.  The Sea Warriors notched a record of 31-5, only lowing to cross-island rival BYU-Hawaii five times.  However, the team came up big in the clutch and defeated the Seasiders when it mattered most with a five-set triumph in the NCAA Regional Tournament to advance to the Big Dance.  The win against BYU-Hawaii was the team's first in 21 attempts dating back to the 1994 season.  HPU defeated North Dakota State, 3-1, to claim the National Championship for the first time since the program moved up from the NAIA ranks.  The team set several records for HPU at the time including establishing a 17-match win streak, notching the highest winning percentage in a season (.861) and the most wins in a season (31).
