Sato played college baseball as a Sea Warrior (1983-86) before transitioning to an assistant coaching position at HPU from 1987-88. Â After coaching briefly at the University of Hawaii, Sato became the Sea Warriors' head baseball coach in 1995 and reitred from HPU after 10 years at the helm. Â As a pitcher, Sato ranks third in program history with 18 wins, fourth all-time with 218 career innings pitched and was the winning pitcher in the program's two victories against D1 UH in the 1985 and 1986 seasons. Â During his ten years of coaching at HPU, in which he also served as assistant athletics director, SAto helped the athletics program in its transition from NAIA to NCAA Division II competition. Â He finished his coaching career second on the program's all-time wins list with 205 victories. Â
