Jürgen Malbeck was the 1997 NAIA Player of the Year and a two-time First-team All-American in 1996 and 1997. Malbeck is HPU’s all-time leader in field goal percentage for a game, season and career. In a memorable game in 1997 against Central Washington, Malbeck went 14-15 from the field, the same year he shot .692 overall. The native of Germany ranks 3rd in points, 4th in field goals, 4th in free throws, 4th in rebounds and 2nd in blocks in HPU history. After his days at HPU, Malbeck was invited to the 1997 Phoenix Sun training camp. He went on to play professionally in Germany, where he spent most of his career with the SOBA Dragons Rhondorf, who won the ProB Championships in 2010.  Malbeck is currently in his last season as a professional basketball player with the Schwelmer Baskets.  Malbeck’s #51 jersey has been retired.
