Waipahu, HI (February 4, 2012) – Hawai'i Pacific head baseball coach
Garett Yukumoto recorded the 207th win of his career, tops in school history, as the Sea Warriors (4-1) defeated Augustana College 13-7. One day earlier, Yukumoto passed Allen Sato (205 wins) on the all-time win list as head coach.
HPU again fell behind early, trailing 4-0 after an inning and a half. However, the bottom the second inning would change the game and lead to victory.
With one out,
Russell Doi and
Codey Ellenwood walked and
Jordan Inamasu was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Another walk to
Jordan Oshiro would force in a run.
Derek Nakasato then reached on an error that plated two runs.
Wade Tamaru would be hit by a pitch to reload the bases for
Marvin Campbell who responded with a two RBI single.
Chad Bolibol then singled in a run and later Campbell would score on a wild pitch. Doi ended the scoring with a sacrifice fly. HPU scored eight times on only two hits in the inning.
Relief pitcher
John Albert would make sure the lead would hold up, surrendering two runs (one earned) on four hits in five innings work.
HPU added a pair of runs in the third and eighth innings as well as a single tally in the sixth inning.
Campbell was 3-5 with two runs and two RBI to lead the club. Doi also had a multi-hit game to go with a run and three RBI.
HPU returns to action against Northwest Nazarene on February 14th at 6 PM at Hans L'Orange Park.
Shark Bites: HPU set a record yesterday in game two for most doubles in a game (team). HPU had 10 doubles, breaking the record of 8 set in 2000…HPU is averaging 15 runs per game over the first five games.
