Box Score BELMONT, CA (January 24, 2015) – Kylie Huerta passed out eight assists to give her 134 on the season, which is a new Hawai'i Pacific Women's Basketball program record. Teammate Morganne Comstock made 15 field goals, a single-game record. All this equaled HPU's 80-64 win over host Notre Dame de Namur (3-16, 1-11).
With the win, HPU keeps control of first place in the PacWest. Now 17-2 overall and 12-0 in league play, HPU has won nine consecutive games and is threating the program record win total for a season (19 in 2012-13). The Sharks need three more wins to clinch a spot in the PacWest Tournament.
Huerta has been sensational all season and she nearly had women's basketball's first ever triple-double with 11 points, a career-high 10 rebounds, and eight assists. The Washington native eclipsed Taiyande Huskey's 130 assists during the 2011-12 season. HPU's floor general has an opportunity to put the record out of reach of future Sharks as she has eight more regular season games and then probably at least one PacWest playoff game.
Comstock was way too much for Notre Dame de Namur to handle. The senior had a double-double in the second half alone (22 and 10) and shot almost 58% (15-26) for the game. She added 13 rebounds to her career-high 36 point scoring barrage, one shy of the single-game scoring record.
California native Veanne Navarro benefited from the home cooking as she scored 13 points on 5-10 shooting.
There was very little intrigue in the game play as the Sharks quickly established themselves as the dominant team. HPU raced out to a 7-0 lead just a minute and a half into the game. HPU never trailed in the game and led by 13 points (47-34) at the half. In the second half, NDNU failed to get inside of 10 points and the Sharks led by as many as 21.
The Sharks now swim back to the islands for a three-game home stand beginning on January 31st against Azusa Pacific at the Blaisdell Center at 1:00 pm.
