Box Score TURLOCK, CA (March 29, 2015) – The Hawai'i Pacific Softball Team (17-15) lost a tough one to Cal State Monterey Bay (30-7) in the final game of the Turlock CVB Tournament of Champions.
The Sharks started the scoring early. In the second inning, senior centerfielder
Keila Elderts drove a single to right field to score two and give HPU the early lead. Monterey Bay answered back, however, in the bottom of the inning with a run of its own.
In the top of the third, senior first baseman
Chelsea Cramer smoked a double down the right field line, scoring shortstop
Sharae Esprecion.
HPU continued to stretch out its lead in the fourth inning. Shark starting pitcher
Kristen Caskey singled to right field for an RBI and was followed by
Noelani Boyer's RBI single through the left side of the infield. This gave the Sharks a 5-1 lead over Monterey Bay.
In the fifth inning, CSUMB shortened the lead by one with a solo homerun.
Monterey Bay's offensive exploded for seven runs in the sixth inning to give it a 9-5 lead over the Sharks and the eventual win.
Elderts and Caskey both had exceptional days at the plate, each getting two hits in the game. Caskey seemed to be cruising in the circle until the sixth inning.
The Sharks take on intra-island rival Chaminade on April 4th at Central Oahu Regional Park, first pitch is scheduled for noon.
