Box Score 2 BELMONT, CA (April 18, 2015) – The Hawai'i Pacific Softball Team (23-19, 13-13) split a doubleheader to conclude the four-game series with the Argonauts of Notre Dame de Namur (20-27, 14-12). HPU dropped the opener 3-2 but responded by taking game two 8-7.
In game one, it was NDNU that took the lead, putting up one run in the first inning and two more in the fourth.
It took the Sharks until the fifth inning to get on the board.
Sharae Esprecion doubled home
Keila Elderts for HPU's first run. She was followed by
Dorian Acierto who doubled as well, scoring Esprecion.
Pitching had the upper hand for the remainder of the game and the Sharks fell to the Argonauts by the score of 3-2.
Freshman
Alexa McCoin (6-4) got the nod for the Sharks in game one and pitched effectively for five innings. She allowed three runs, one earned, in an unlucky loss.
In game two, the bats came to life for both sides, as 15 runs were scored in the seven-inning game.
HPU started off the game with a run on
Paige Crawford's RBI single. Acierto extended that lead when she grounded out to third base, scoring Elderts on the play.
NDNU took the lead after scoring three runs total in the third and fourth innings.
In the fifth, Crawford walked with the bases loaded to tie the game at three runs a piece.
The Argonauts took the lead into the seventh inning with a go ahead homerun.
HPU did not go quietly, down to its last at bat.
Courtney Ahlo came through with a clutch bases clearing double to give HPU the lead at 6-4. Elderts and Esprecion each followed with RBI doubles of their own, giving the Sharks an 8-4 lead.
NDNU fought back to bring the game within nail biting distance but HPU held on and won by the final of 8-7.
Kristen Caskey (12-13) got the win, going all seven innings and striking out six.
The Sharks now head around the corner to play Academy of Art tomorrow in another PacWest doubleheader in San Francisco.
