Softball Wraps Bay Area Trip with Split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SAN FRANCISCO, CA (April 19, 2015) – The Hawai'i Pacific Softball Team (24-20, 14-14) split the doubleheader with Academy of Art (26-26, 16-14) on Sunday. The Sharks took the opener 9-4 and then lost game two 6-4.

In game one, HPU got out to the early lead when both Keila Elderts and Sharae Esprecion scored on wild pitches.

In the third inning, Sharks' starter Kristen Caskey helped her own cause, sending a two-run homerun out to center field. In the bottom of the inning, Art U tied the game with a four-run rally.

The Sharks scored three more runs in the sixth inning. Elderts doubled home a run and was followed by a two RBI single up the middle by Esprecion.

Toni Baysa extended the lead in the seventh, tripling to center field to drive in two more.

Caskey (11-9) went the distance for the Sharks and got the win, allowing four runs, three earned, on nine hits over the seven innings.

In game two, the Sharks again took the early lead when Esprecion scored on a wild pitch.

Art U scored three runs in the third inning and put up its fourth run in the fifth inning to take a 4-1 lead.

The Sharks tied the game in the sixth inning with a three-run rally. Paige Crawford started the scoring for HPU with a single to left field to score Dorian Aceirto. Noelani Boyer was later hit by a pitch with the bases loaded for another run. Elderts tied the game with a fielder's choice, scoring Carolann Toyama.

However, in the bottom of the sixth inning, AAU took the lead by two and held on to for the win.

HPU has split 10 of the 14 PacWest doubleheaders this season.

The Sharks come back to the islands to take on the Vulcans of UH Hilo on April 25th with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 pm.
