Box Score 2 WAIPIO, HI (April 4, 2015) – The Hawai'i Pacific Softball Team (18-16, 8-10) took on Chaminade University (8-32, 7-17) on Saturday at Central Oahu Regional Park. This marks the Sharks' first game back in the islands in over two weeks, but still technically is a road series. The home team took the opener 4-3 while HPU bounced back to win game two 7-3.
The Silverswords started off the day with a run in the bottom of the first frame to take the early lead.
In the third inning, CUH extended its lead with two more runs on a homerun.
The fourth marked the first time the Sharks got on the scoreboard.
Noelani Boyer drove in a run on a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring senior
Keila Elderts. Later in the inning,
Chelsea Cramer came up clutch with two outs and drove a single out to left field scoring two runs and tying the game at three.
The Sharks quickly found themselves trailing again in the bottom of the fourth when the Silverswords pushed across another run.
Both teams failed to score for the remainder of the game and HPU dropped game one.
Kristen Caskey (8-7) pitched the entire game for the Sharks. Her final line read six innings pitched with four runs allowed on six hits while striking out four.
In game two of the doubleheader, CUH took the early lead with a run in the bottom of the third.
In the fourth inning though, the Sharks put together a massive rally and scored six runs, on three consecutive hits, to essentially put the game away. Two runs scored when Elderts reached on an error by CUH's leftfielder.
Sharae Esprecion followed with a two-run single to center and advanced to second on a fielding error by the centerfielder. Senior
Dorian Acierto was next, striking a bullet to centerfield for another run. Caskey finished the rally with a double to right center to score Acierto and making it a 6-1 game.
Two innings later, in the sixth, the Sharks pushed across another run when
Sienna Santiago singled up the middle to score Acierto.
Chaminade scored runs in the sixth and seventh innings but was not able to come close to the Sharks. The final score would sit at 7-3 in favor of the Sharks.
Paige Crawford (6-6) earned the win, getting her record back up to .500 on the season. She went the complete game, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits.
The Sharks continue the season series with Chaminade on Sunday (April 5th) at CORP with game one set to start at 2:30 pm.
