HONOLULU - Hawaiʻi Pacific University battled hard in an exciting exhibition game against Division I University of Hawaiʻi. While the Sharks ultimately fell 74-34, the exhibition showcased their strengths and gave them valuable experience to improve their game heading into the season.
The Sharks were led by freshman guard
Kyla Hopton, who put up an impressive 11 points by shooting 3-7 from beyond the arc, while snagging a defensive rebound and a block. Kaimuki local,
Mia Frye, provided 8 points, two rebounds, an assist, and three steals.
Abbey Hadsell cleaned the glass for the sharks, snagging a team high of seven rebounds.Â
A point of pride that the Sharks can hang their hat on is the fact that they fared better than cross-town rival Chaminade University, which fell 90-33. This was achieved by raining threes and limiting the Ê»Bows' ability to penetrate inside.Â
This exhibition also marked the first game for Head Coach Brent Gibson without the word "Intirum" in front of the title. "We were really looking to see how we'd do when the lights come on." Coach Gibson said, "Offensively, we got some great reads, which gives us something to work towards improving. Overall, Iʻm happy with our performance tonight, and we are excited for November 10th".
The Sharks will return to the court Nov. 10 at 5 p.m. at the Shark Tank for their second exhibition against Northwest Indian College.Â
