Box Score FRESNO, CA (January 17, 2015) – The Hawai'i Pacific Women's Basketball Team (14-2, 9-0) stayed red hot on the mainland by defeating Fresno Pacific (2-11, 2-6) 96-66 on Saturday afternoon in Fresno.
The Sharks bludgeoned Fresno Pacific from almost the opening tip.
Breanna Mackenzie hit a three-pointer with 19:28 to play in the opening half to give HPU a 3-2 lead, the Sharks did not trail again the rest of the night.
By the 13:15 mark of the first half Karianne Noonan got to the basket to put HPU up 22-11. The Sharks kept pushing and took a 22 point lead (53-31) into the half aided by a late bucket by
Morganne Comstock.
The lead reached 30 points (63-33) after back-to-back fast break baskets from Mackenzie just 2:25 into the second half. From that point FPU played the Sharks even, but the game's outcome had long been decided. The biggest HPU lead of the night was 36 points.
The reigning PacWest Player of the Week, Comstock, poured in 28 points to lead all scorers. The offensive effort gave her the conference lead in scoring, by one point.
Kylie Huerta hit four three-pointers on her way to 20 points to go with seven assists, five rebounds, and four steals. Mackenzie scored 18 point on an excellent 8-13 shooting night.
Chenise Peone had another good all-around game with 12 points, a game-high 14 rebounds and five assists.
Veanne Navarro rounded out HPU's starting lineup of double-figure scorers with 11 points.
After Saturday's action around the PacWest, HPU remains undefeated in conference play while every other team has at least two losses.
The Sharks return to action on Monday when they visit Holy Names.
