Box Score OAKLAND, CA (January 19, 2015) – The Hawai'i Pacific Women's Basketball Team (15-2, 10-0) throttled Holy Names University (2-15, 1-8) 85-47 to remain undefeated in PacWest play.
The Sharks once again led from wire-to-wire, Veanne Navarro drew first blood when she got to the basket a minute and 16 seconds into the game. HPU led 10-0 when Chenise Peone drilled a three-pointer with 16:53 left in the opening half.
However, the Hawks battled back and tied the game twice late in the half. Peone broke the tie with a long ball with 3:18 left in the half, the senior then again connected from distance at the 1:32 mark to send HPU into the locker room up six at 34-28.
The Sharks hit their stride in the first ten minutes of the second half and extended the lead to 21 with 10:08 to play. The lead swelled to 31 points (69-83) on a Morganne Comstock bucket with 6:23 remaining. The biggest lead of the night came when Jessi Reeves scored to make in 81-41 late in the contest.
Comstock had a game-high in points (18) to go with seven rebounds, five assists, and three blocks. Peone was also fantastic with 15 points and eight rebounds. Kylie Huerta hit three three-pointers on her way to 11 points, six rebounds and six assists. Breanna Mackenzie, Taylor Blake, and Kerianne Noonan each added nine points.
The team has won seven consecutive games since a late December loss.
The Sharks next head across the bay to play back-to-back defending PacWest Champion Academy of Art on Thursday.
