Box Score LAIE, HI (January 2, 2015) – The Hawai'i Pacific University Women's Basketball Team stayed perfect in the PacWest, claiming its fifth win in conference play improving to 10-2 overall. The ladies earned this hard fought win against Oahu rival BYU–Hawai'i (5-5, 2-2) winning 74–68.
BYU–H started off hot scoring five straight to begin the game, making HPU fight the entire first half to gain a lead. HPU grabbed its largest lead of the half (eight), with just over two minutes left, but a six point run by the home team cut the lead down to two going into the half.
The second half was all HPU though. Within the first seven minutes of the half, HPU built its lead to 16. BYU–H did not go away quietly however, as the Seasiders gradually broke the Sharks' lead down to seven with just over two minutes left.
Kylie Huerta had other ideas, and drove to the basket to put the Sharks up by nine again and seal the win for the Sharks.
Huerta was instrumental in the Sharks win, scoring a game-high 27 points with four rebounds and five steals while tying with
Chenise Peone for a game-high seven assists.
Morganne Comstock also proved menacing to the Seasiders racking up another double–double with 18 points and 10 rebounds while also rejecting two shots.
Breanna Mackenzie was a spark plug off the bench for the Sharks. She went 4-6 from the field, good for 11 points and also added five rebounds.
The Sharks next game is Monday (January 5) as they take on Point Loma at the Neil Blaisdell Center at 4:30 p.m.
