Box Score ST. GEORGE, UT (February 16, 2015) – The Hawai'i Pacific Women's Basketball Team (21-4, 16-2) swept its three game mainland road trip on Monday with a blowout 96-65 win at Dixie State (8-16, 7-11).
Dixie State competed in the first quarter of the game and hung with the Sharks.
Chenise Peone made a layup with 13:23 left in the opening half to give HPU the lead. HPU led for the rest of the game, although HPU didn't gain real separation until late in the half.
With 4:13 to play, HPU led by five at 28-23. The Sharks then found the next gear and went on a 16-2 run to take command in the last seconds of the first half.
In the second half, HPU was never challenged. The HPU advantage oscillated between 19 and 33 points.
All five starters for HPU had double figure scoring nights, led by
Kylie Huerta's 26 points. The senior floor general added nine assists and five rebounds.
Veanne Navarro had her second 20 point game of the trip on 7-11 shooting. Peone and
Breanna Mackenzie each scored 11 points and pulled in five rebounds, Peone also had six dimes.
Morganne Comstock scored 16 points to give her 463 for the season which currently ranks her third for the HPU single season scoring record. The senior trails Ashley Jenkins (2007-2008) by 27 points for the top spot. Comstock also notched a game-high 10 rebounds.
HPU remains in first place in the PacWest Conference and continues to build its resume for the NCAA West Region rankings.
HPU closes the regular season with two home games against Dominican and Holy Names. Dominican visits the Blaisdell Center on February 24th at 4:30 pm.
