Box Score HONOLULU, HI (February 8, 2015) – The Hawai'i Pacific Women's Basketball Team (18-4, 13-2) blew off some steam against visiting Chaminade University (5-13, 5-9). After losing the last two games, HPU came out with a point to prove, HPU rolled 86-47.
The game was never really in question, HPU lead from wire-to-wire. Just 3:08 into the game, the Sharks led by 10 at 12-2. The HPU dominance continued for the rest of the half with the Sharks' advantage reaching 27 after a late
Morganne Comstock basket.
HPU shot an astonishing 59.3% (19-32) as a team in the first half while limiting CUH to 33.3% (8-24).
The second half was more of the same, Chaminde didn't get to within 20 points and HPU led by 44 at 85-41 with 2:07 left.
Chaminade had been playing well coming into the contest, winners of two consecutive including a double overtime win at BYU-Hawaii. However, on Sunday, it ran into a buzz saw. HPU shot the ball better and almost doubled up the competition in the rebounding battle (44-24). The Sharks also feasted on 24 'Swords turnovers.
It was a total team effort with all 11 Sharks playing at least five minutes and 10 scoring.
Comstock led everyone with 19 points on 7-12 shooting and 11 rebounds. Freshman
Breanna Mackenzie was outstanding with 16 points and three assists. Seniors
Kylie Huerta (12) and
Chenise Peone (11) also registered double-digits points, Huerta again had a game-high five assists as Peone contributed seven rebounds.
HPU now embarks on a difficult Southern California road trip with games at Point Loma, Azusa Pacific and Dixie State. The trip beings on February 12 at PLNU.
