Box Score 2 KANEOHE, HI (March 14, 2015) – The Hawai'i Pacific Softball Team (10-8, 3-7) dropped both games of Saturday's doubleheader against national power Dixie State (21-5, 12-0). HPU lost the opener 4-1 before falling in game two 8-2.
Starter
Kristen Caskey was very good for three innings, but had one rough frame. Dixie State scored four runs in the third inning to take a 4-0 lead. That is all the Red Storm got in the game as
Alexa McCoin pitched three innings of scoreless relief.
However, the HPU bats were silenced, scratching out four hits in the contest. The Sharks scored a run in the seventh inning on an RBI groundout from
Kayla Sanchez but the rally stopped there.
Three out of the four hits came off the bat of
Dorian Acierto, who also scored HPU's run and stole a base.
The good pitching for the visiting team continued in game two. The Sharks managed just six hits.
The Red Storm scored two runs in the second inning and then added another in the fourth to take a 3-0 lead. HPU matched the run in the fourth when Sanchez singled to right field, scoring
Sharae Esprecion.
Dixie State kept coming and plated singles runs in the fifth and sixth innings to make it a 5-1 game. HPU matched the run in the sixth on Esprecion's RBI double that drove in
Keila Elderts.
DSU ended any thought of a late comeback by scoring three times in the top of the seventh inning.
Esprecion and
Toni Baysa each had multi-hit games in the nightcap.
The Sharks return to the diamond on Wednesday (March 18th) when HPU hosts Faulkner, a NAIA school from Alabama.
