Box Score 2 BELMONT, CA (April 16, 2015) – The Hawai'i Pacific Softball Team (22-18, 12-12) took on the Argonauts of Notre Dame de Namur (19-26, 13-11) today in a doubleheader to start off its second road trip to the mainland. The Sharks managed a split in the day's games taking the second game 7-5 after falling in the opener 12-5.
Game one started well for the Sharks, after
Keila Elderts got on to lead off the game,
Sharae Esprecion doubled her home to take the early lead.
In the bottom of the inning though, NDNU tied the game back up. The second saw more runs from the Sharks, as senior third baseman
Dorian Acierto drove in three with a bases clearing double.
Notre Dame scratched for one run back in the third. In the fourth, the Sharks extended their lead back out to three when Esprecion again doubled, this time scoring
Toni Baysa.
NDNU came to life however, scoring four runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to take a 10-5 lead
In the sixth, the Argonauts pushed across two more and win by the final score of 12-5.
In game two, it was once again Esprecion to give the Sharks the lead in the opening frame. She drove home Elderts, again, on a single.
Notre Dame took the lead in the bottom half of the inning on a two-run double.
In the third, HPU put up a five spot on the scoreboard to take a 6-2 lead. Esprecion reached on an error to score Elderts, later scoring on a triple by Acierto. Pitcher
Paige Crawford followed with a single of her own to drive in Acierto from third.
Sienna Santiago and Baysa were given free passes with the bases loaded, driving in a run each.
NDNU answered with a run of its own in the bottom half of the third to bring the score to within three.
Kayla Sanchez singled home Crawford in the fourth inning as an insurance run to bring the score to 7-3.
In the bottom of the seventh inning the Argonauts threatened and score two but HPU held out for the win.
Shark starter
Paige Crawford (9-7) earned the win going the complete game. She also struck out five NDNU batters.
The Sharks continue the series with Notre Dame de Namur on Saturday, April 18th in another PacWest doubleheader.
