Softball Celebrates Easter with Two Wins

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WAIPIO, HI (April 5, 2015) – The Hawai'i Pacific Softball Team (20-16, 10-10) took two on Easter Sunday from Honolulu rival Chaminade University (8-34, 7-19). The pair of games concluded the Sharks' long road trip on a positive note before heading back to the friendly confines of Howard A. Okita Field. HPU took the opener 5-2 and then 8-5 in game two.

In game one, the Sharks jumped out to an early lead in the top of the second. Courtney Ahlo started the scoring with an RBI double to left center to score Kayla Sanchez. Toni Baysa came up next and tripled to the other gap, driving in both Chelsea Cramer and Ahlo.

In the fifth inning, the Silverswords made it a game by closing the gap, scoring two runs.

In the seventh, Kristen Caskey helped out her own cause, driving a single up the middle to score two more runs to lead 5-2. Caskey maintained the lead and solidified the win for the Sharks on the mound in the bottom of the inning.

Caskey (9-7) ended up throwing seven innings while allowing two unearned runs on five hits with one punch out.

Game two saw both teams' offense explode for 13 runs combined.

Caskey got it going for HPU driving in the first of many runs for the Sharks on a single to right field for an RBI. Sharae Esprecion then homered to right center a few batters later for another two runs.

In the third inning, CUH put together a five-run rally to take the lead 5-3.

HPU steadily struck back. Cramer hit her first homerun of the season to right center to make it 5-4 in the fourth inning.

In the fifth, Esprecion singled up the middle for another RBI to tie the game. Later in the inning, Cramer singled to right field, driving in another two runs to put HPU up.

In the top of the sixth, Keila Elderts helped push across one last run putting the score at 8-5.

Alexa McCoin (5-3) earned the win in relief. She threw four and two-thirds innings giving up just three hits and striking out two.
