Owen Wessel joins Hawai‘i Pacific as a versatile utility athlete with experience at the NCAA-caliber high school level and productive JUCO development. A Huntington Beach native and three-year varsity player at Mater Dei under coach Richard Mercado, Wessel earned Freshman Defensive Player of the Year honors before continuing his collegiate path at Orange Coast College, where he was named Second Team All-OEC.

Wessel brings energy, adaptability, and a competitive presence to the Sharks roster — a player capable of filling roles wherever needed and doing it with confidence.

Known by teammates as Wes, Odog, or ODiesel, he carries a strong Southern California baseball background into HPU’s culture and continues to grow his game in a program that values toughness, athletic versatility, and development.
